As for Sotomayor, you're absolutely correct (my apologies) - I think I was considering Barrett part of the list of conservative Catholics on the Court--not much doubt she will be confirmed. See https://ballotpedia.org/Sonia_Sotomayor . Still that does not diminish your main point about a vastly unbalanced court. <br /><br />The bigger problem may be the issues repeatedly referred to the Supreme Court. Consider a recent editorial from America magazine entitled "The Supreme Court can't resolve all our moral disputes. It shouldn't try." The writers conclude, "Repeatedly referring these moral dilemmas to the court, often framed very poorly as legal disputes, is a slow-motion disaster for democracy. The court is functioning in these instances less as a judicial body than as a relief valve for legislative dysfunction and executive overreach, and the pressure is rising faster than it can be vented through the necessarily slow process of judicial opinions."<br /><br />Thanks for another thoughtful analysis of current events.Alicehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15730744667373797751noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5574808717571427611.post-86890301319570171292020-10-17T06:50:45.266-07:002020-10-17T06:50:45.266-07:00I think it would be more fair to say that we have ...I think it would be more fair to say that we have four conservative Catholics on the court and one liberal: Justice Sotomayor.
